Starter Kit
AN OVERVIEW OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION
If you spend some time looking over the blog, you’ll see that a lot of attention is given to all sorts of tips. With so much confusion surrounding the world of 1) writing a resume, 2) searching for a job and 3) navigating a career, I get many questions. Having said that, certain topics tend to come up more frequently than others.
Following is a “starter kit” of posts that will point you towards the resume writing topics that I am most often asked to address.
Posts addressing different aspects of the resume:
- Many people struggle with constructing an achievement focused resume. Start thinking in terms of accomplishments.
- In most cases, your resume is never complete – it’s not a static document. Targeting a resume is very important.
- Do you really need to send a cover letter? Yes! “Frame” how the reader views your resume.
- Still using an Objective Statement? Consider a more compelling introduction on your resume.
- Wondering how long your resume should be? The appropriate length for a resume.
- Many people are confused about where to put Education on a resume. Where to place your education.
- A concise resume is usually more compelling than a long one. How many years of experience to include on your resume (and avoid an unnecessarily long resume).
- The rules regarding references have changed. How to handle references on a resume.
- What voice you should use on your resume. Don’t talk about yourself in the 3rd person.
