I was just talking to a colleague about the limping-along economy and the challenges that we (in Human Resources / Career Development) and job seekers face because of it.
I bet your wondering what kind of predicament HR departments could possibly be in. After all, doesn’t the current job market make hiring managers’ lives easier?
People need jobs, but there are fewer available. Companies need quality new-hires, but far too many candidates are coming from a place of desperation.
Professionalism and quality work are always well worth it. Make certain that every resume you submit is targeted and of the highest quality. When job details and/or contact information is provided, don’t submit generic information (and wonder why you aren’t getting called in for an interview).
I know it’s a rough employment landscape. Take pride in every submission by submitting the best materials – usually a resume and cover letter – that you can. Your chances of getting an interview are dampened enough by the economy; don’t further hinder yourself by submitting sub par documents.
Don’t diminish your self worth by submitting a resume that isn’t a representation of the best you. Do your best. Every time.
