Most people – me included – consider this the season of gratitude and giving back.  Read more

Each year, as people settle into autumn and begin to think about the giving season ahead, I like to lend some blog space to the importance of empowering others and creating a world where everyone has a chance to succeed.

Also at this time of year, I like to roll out a promotion that – in addition to being a fantastic deal – also serves to help those in need.

Today, I am eager to announce that I have decided to make the promotional package I recently announced a permanent promotion.

It’s called Tandem’s Toolkit, and I firmly believe that it’s the perfect package of job search documents.

In addition to the bare essentials – a powerful resume and a compelling, individualized cover letter template – Tandem’s Toolkit includes:

  • A personalized resume follow-up letter template, allowing you to send a targeted letter after each resume submission.

and

  • A sharp, LinkedIn-ready companion to your resume – ready for posting on LinkedIn or other boards of interest.

Here’s the best news…. Specific pricing depends on your career level, years of experience (etc.), but the minimum savings is $90.

And, when you purchase the package between October and December, I’ll give $5 to CARE International (Tandem’s Charity of Choice this year) and $5 to Create Jobs (added 11/7/2011).

So, you’ll get outstanding new job search documents AND the great feeling that comes with giving back. You can’t beat that. Just be sure to mention this blog post when you make your initial contact.

As I said last week, we’re all connected as world citizens – we have to watch out for one another, especially in these rough economic times.

Send off an e-mail to help yourself and – along the way – those in need.

It’s been a few months since I’ve written about Tandem’s current “Charity of Choice” – CARE International. If you’ve clicked around this website a bit, you know that Tandem is committed to giving back via our Tandem Empowers initiatives. We enjoy donating services to ambitious yet disadvantaged individuals who are struggling to find meaningful work, and we make donations to humanitarian organizations that believe in the potential of people around the world.

CARE’s primary goal is: “Defending dignity. Fighting poverty.” From CARE’s Vision Statement:

We seek a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security.

Last month, I spent time in Washington D.C. learning more about CARE and advocating on Capitol Hill for the incredible work that they do to make the world a better place for all. This is the second time that I’ve had the opportunity to do this, and I continue to stand in awe of their leadership in the humanitarian arena.

Are you looking for a new charity to support?  Feel free to join Tandem and check out CARE. Or – if you’re just in the market for a new resume from Tandem – you can feel satisfied, knowing that you are also playing a part in Tandem’s commitment to empowering those who need a boost.

Here’s to a world where everyone can lead a fulfilling life.

It’s a good time to remind you of a few things as we head into the final stretch of the Giving Season. First – in case you missed it – Tandem’s Charity of Choice for this year is Care International.

In good times and in bad, I recognize the importance of paying attention to those people that have fallen on hard times or, perhaps, live in tough conditions daily. If you are someone who also believes in giving back, you can read about the incentive I am offering you here (Tandem really likes to reward people who have big hearts).

Within those posts, you can also learn a bit more about the incredible work that Care does to empower individuals and communities. Be sure to check them out if you are searching for a place to channel your altruistic energy.

Happy Holidays

Just a reminder that Tandem has a couple of especially great things going on right now. First off, don’t miss November’s promotion, which sets you up with a complete toolkit of job search documents.

Next – in case you missed it – I also have my annual “Give Back – Get a Deal” promotion going on. Since the giving season is fast approaching, it’s a good time to turn our minds to lending a hand to those who are less fortunate. So, be sure to check out what Tandem is doing to inspire you to give back.

Finally, my last post on concise resumes sparked a lot of interest and inquiries from people who aren’t quite sure how to construct the best resume possible and then put it to use in the job-search arena. I will get into this topic further next week, after I have had a chance to review all of the e-mails I have received on the topic.

Tandem believes in the importance of giving back. A couple of weeks ago, I introduced you to CARE, Tandem’s current Charity of Choice selection. Being an active advocate for the work that they do to fight poverty, I am a big believer in CARE’s mission.

Each year, as people settle into Autumn and begin to think about the giving season ahead, I like to lend some blog space to the importance of empowering others and creating a world where everyone has a chance to succeed.

Last year, I introduced a promotion, Give Back – Get a Deal, that was a big hit. So, it was a very easy decision to run a similar promotion again this year. Here are the details of what’s happening…

New customers who 1) provide proof of a current charitable donation and 2) purchase Tandem’s Toolkit (a resume along with individualized and customizable templates for the following:  cover letter, thank-you letter, resume follow-up letter), will receive BOTH:

  • A version of your new resume and cover letter targeted to a position of your choosing (so you can see exactly how it’s done!).
  • A repurposed version of your freshly minted resume suitable for posting on LinkedIn, etc.

Tandem’s standard October promotion gives clients one OR the other.  If you’re someone who gives back, you get both.

So, you’ll get outstanding new job search documents AND the great feeling that comes with giving back. You can’t beat that. Just be sure to mention this blog post when you make your initial contact.

Across the world, we’re all connected – we have to watch out for one another. Please take a moment to contribute to your own favorite charity and/or check out CARE. Then get in touch to be set up with a complete – and I do mean complete – set of job search documents.

Have questions? Please send off an e-mail.

If you’ve clicked around this website a bit, you know that Tandem is committed to giving back via our “Tandem Empowers” initiatives. We enjoy donating services to ambitious yet disadvantaged individuals who are struggling to find meaningful work, and we make donations to humanitarian organizations that believe in the potential of people.

Last year, Mercy Corps was Tandem’s Charity of Choice. Throughout the past several months, I’ve enjoyed sharing information about their work and how Tandem has supported them. Along the way, many clients have been inspired to have a look at how Mercy Corps makes a difference in the world.

I am happy to announce that this year’s Charity of Choice, CARE, is equally as impressive. CARE’s biggest goal is: “Defending dignity. Fighting poverty.” From CARE’s Vision Statement:

We seek a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security.

Under the leadership of Helene D. Gayle, CARE works diligently to build strong communities in the interest of fulfilling their mission. I know, from first-hand experience, that CARE does incredible work. This year, I even had the chance to visit Capitol Hill in order to advocate for the work CARE does in an effort to make the world a better place.

Are you looking for a new charity to support?  Feel free to join Tandem and check out CARE. Or – if you’re just in the market for a new resume from Tandem – you can feel satisfied, knowing that you are also playing a part inTandem’s commitment to empowering those who need a boost.

Feel free to check back here for updates regarding how Tandem Empowers is giving back so that we can all live in a better world.

Tandem believes in giving back. That’s what the arm, Tandem Empowers, is all about. It’s been a while since I’ve provided an update.

In this tough economic climate, with so many people struggling to make ends meet and/or find work, it’s sometimes difficult – understandably – to think beyond what’s going on in our own lives. Many frustrated job seekers are in survival mode. In the past year, in particular, I’ve enjoyed donating services to disadvantaged people in their quests for meaningful work, and I even partnered with a “pink slip” group to provide advice and guidance.

The mission of Tandem Empowers goes even deeper – it’s about helping the world’s most vulnerable people. Last year, I announced Tandem’s Charity of Choice, MercyCorps (check them out if you’re in the market for a new charity!). Also, I was happy to help out tsunami victims in Samoa and Haiti’s citizens, struggling to overcome the devastating impact of the earthquake at the beginning of the year.

Last month I had an awesome experience, when I was able to spend time in Washington DC advocating on behalf of individuals who are trying to find their way out of poverty. These people, who are often treated as though they are invisible, need all of the support that they can get. Consider these statistics:

  • About 1 out of every 5 American children lives in poverty.
  • About 1 out of every 6 people around the world is chronically hungry.

At Tandem, work and giving back go hand-in-hand.  Thanks, again, to all of you for your business.  It enables me to do the work I love and – at the same time – work to expand the circle of opportunity.

Q: I get frustrated with corporate websites that only allow uploading a resume that is devoid of all formatting. Is there any way around this?

A: No, there is usually no way around the rules that some companies have for uploading a resume. Keep in mind, though, that many companies allow you to submit a polished copy of your resume. Whatever the case, the content should shine regardless of the formatting.

Having said that, a smart looking resume isn’t solely for that initial contact. An outstanding resume is really a prerequisite. It’s a necessary part of your job search toolkit that will help you in several places along the way. Let the reality of this job search statistic be all of the motivation you need to ensure that you get that outstanding resume directly into the hands of as many people as possible (not just uploaded on websites). Also, I can tell you that an incredible resume is about the best thing you can have going for you when a hiring manager is making a final decision on which candidate to select.

Deal with those resume-unfriendly websites as needed, but don’t let them discourage you. They represent a small part of the job search picture.

***UPDATE 1 February 2010

A portion of the proceeds from every resume project in January went to support people in Haiti via Mercy Corps (see below). Thank you for your support!
_____________

Many people here in the United States – and, more so, around the world – have to endure a lot of hardship. About 2 of 3 people lack access to clean drinking water and about 1 of 3 people live on less than $1 a day. In a world with so much wealth, it really is unimaginable.

On top of these already disquieting statistics, many of these same people have to endure colossal tragedies. The Asian tsunami, Katrina – to name a couple – and now the earthquake in Haiti.

Oftentimes, when I get into these topics, I have to resist the urge to feel as though I am getting “off topic” from the core purpose of Tandem. During those moments, though, I’m quickly reminded that this, too, is what Tandem is all about.

Tandem is, of course, about resume writing and career development. Essentially, inspiring people to get more aligned with their authentic selves and, therefore, closer and closer to career (and life!) satisfaction. If you’ve used Tandem’s services or have spent some time here on the website, you likely know that it goes deeper than that.

Tandem’s desire to empower people and communities transcends career development activities. In fact, Tandem got off the ground emboldened by the belief that we are all connected as world citizens. What’s good for you is good for me.

The support will go to Tandem’s Charity of Choice for the year, Mercy Corps. They are doing a lot of good work there during this tough time. Check them out here.
